Following his retirement from professional rugby, Pierre Spies needed to meet two objectives: to leverage his return to SA and his experience as part of teams that perform with excellence, and to be repositioned as an inspiring public speaker. Pierre had previously engaged with Oxigen on endorsement and commercial rights management and challenged the Oxigen team to help him with the above challenges when he returned from France in 2018.


The first step was to create a visual representation of the Pierre Spies brand. Our design team conceptualised Pierre’s logo and brand collateral.

Our development team created a new Pierre Spies website geared towards supporting his public speaking services.

Oxigen assisted Pierre with bringing two concepts to life. One was #BuildingTheNextGeneration, Pierre’s platform for youth development and upliftment. The other was the “Fail Forward” concept that formed the basis for Pierre’s approach to his motivational talks.

Oxigen announced the initiatives to the media and secured coverage as well as enquiries from corporates and churches who wanted to book Pierre.

Pierre’s social media platform was established using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and a Public Figure LinkedIn profile. Professional photos of Pierre and a collection of authentic motivational and inspiring content from Pierre resulted in high levels of audience engagement across all three platforms.

To further entrench Pierre’s initiatives, Oxigen set up production of a Pierre Spies podcast that would allow Pierre’s approach to be conveyed through interviews with various individuals ranging from students to professional sports men and women.

Within 3 months, Pierre had secured paid guest speaking segments and had been interviewed on several radio and television shows – including TuksFM and the Dan Nicholls Show.
